Well, I think one of my heroes has always been my mother. When I was young, I always admired her, and I wanted to be just her when I grew up; in many ways, I’m still trying to. One reason she is one of my heroes is that she was able to raise three children all by herself. She had to work full-time while we were growing up, and she’d come home and she would have to do all the shopping and cooking and cleaning. It seems like she never got any rest. But she was always so positive and energetic, and she encouraged us to be the same way. Even though she was really tired and stressed, she never let us see it.
Another reason she is my hero is because of the way she’s handled my dad. About fifteen years ago, my dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, and it’s like he’s slowly dying. It’s horrible to watch, and it’s just gotten worse and worse. And my mom has just been there for him while he fights this disease. She takes care of him, and she makes it much easier for him to live with it. She really loves him very much.
I admire and respect my mother for everything she has done and everything that she did. I really hope that I will be able to make a difference in the lives of the people around me just like she has. And I would like to continue to follow her example, too. I think that I have a lot to learn from her.
